Workshop Descriptions:

Basic characteristics of the AFGHAN WOMEN'S DANCE includes graceful hand gestures that frame the upper body, engagingly coy facial expressions, and beautiful turn sequences. The dance serves as an improvisational solo expression and emotional outlet among women in the community. This workshop explores the fundamentals of Afghan technique in a delightful choreography. The traditional dances of Attan, the national dance of Afghanistan, and Logari will also be introduced. (Afghan dance workshop is from 1:00-2:30 p.m.)

The SHEIKHAT are the professional dancers and singers of Morocco hired to entertain at weddings and other family celebrations. Known as “women who don’t listen to men”, they occupy a special place in Moroccan society as transgressors of the traditional female role, and maintain lives of independence -and disapproval by “polite” society- similar to their courtesan sisters of past eras. In addition to robust hip and shoulder articulations and rhythmic footwork, the dancer may display her skills by balancing a tea tray on the head while executing complex isolations and acrobatic floor-work. This engaging workshop features the danse-du-plateau and playful partnering. (Trays will be provided for the class.) (Sheikhat/Moroccan dance workshop is from 3:00-4:30 p.m.)

Pre-Sale Rate (ends May 15, 2012): $43/one workshop or $80/both workshops
Door rate (and after May 15): $45/one workshop or $90/both workshops

No printed tickets will be provided for workshops. A list of registered names (those who have paid) will be held at the door, so each student should give his/her name at the door of each workshop, for entry. Students should be prepared to show printed PayPal receipt and ID, if needed.

NO REFUNDS (partial or full) will be provided, once you register. If you register and can not attend, you may attempt to sell your spot(s) to another student (be sure to report the name of your replacement student to Amethyst by calling 412.225.3302), but no refunds will be offered to any student.

Once you pay via PayPal, you are registered, and have a guaranteed spot in class.

Private lesson spots are limited, and have been offered to students in the order of which they have registered for BOTH of the public workshops (no exceptions).
If you'd like to schedule a private lesson, you must first support BOTH of the public workshops.
Private lessons MUST be booked through Amethyst ONLY (event organizer). Please express interest in private lessons when you register through Amethyst for the public workshops; in which case you will get a spot in line for booking a private lesson IF spots are still available. Spots may soon be full.
